History

Businessmen who in the early 1860's started their journey to conquer the markets of the world from the coast of China expressed their wish for a local, specialized banking organization that could pay attention to their needs and provide high quality services. 
Thus begins the history of HSBC, one of the largest financial organizations today.

The bank was founded by Thomas Sutherland and under his leadership, the first branch opened in Hong Kong in March 3, 1865 and a month later the second branch opened in Shanghai to support the first businessmen in the Far East with international goals and perspectives.  Even today, the name itself denotes this long history: "Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation" - HSBC.

Today, HSBC Group has continued its expansion with a strong presence in all major financial markets around the world.  Based on this long history, its legacy of knowledge, the strength that was the result of this history and headquartered in London, the banking center of world, HSBC is established as a leader among financial institutions worldwide.
