Our 2010 European Management programme is everything you'd expect from the world's local bank

Programme Overview

Providing a comprehensive insight into our retail and commercial banking businesses, it is designed to help you develop the skills and experience you need to embark on a management career with HSBC in your home country through different placements overseas.

Programme Structure

In total, the programme lasts approximately 20 months, commencing in September 2010, with a three-week local induction course followed by a two-week induction course in the UK.

Following the induction, you will undertake two overseas placements typically within Europe. The third final placement is in the home country in order to complete the training and ultimately receive the first management appointment. All 3 placements are 6 months long.

Learning & Development

Training covers a range of soft and technical skills, specialist banking concepts as well as HSBC structure and strategy.

UK training courses include further skills development as well as sharing of experiences between delegates. Specialist projects are set during each placement, which aim to develop commercial thinking.

Each placement focuses on personal and commercial businesses, as well as specific business needs of each participating country.

Throughout the programme, access is given to knowledge resources to facilitate self-study.

After the programme

At the end of the programme, you'll be ready to take up a management position with HSBC in your home country.

What we're looking for

We are looking for graduates who are bright, creative and motivated with an enthusiasm to learn, a flexibility to adjust to different situations and a commitment to positively contribute to the company’s image and success.

Candidates are willing to take on responsibility and want to become commercial relationship managers or financial planning managers in their home country at the end of the programme.

Programme Requirements

Before applying, it's important to make sure that you meet the minimum requirements of the programme.

To join the European Management Programme you will need:

  • A high quality recent degree (UK equivalent 2.1 GPA equivalent 3.5 or 7 out of 10 Greek University equivalent) preferably in a business related subject
  • Fluency in English and Greek
  • Internationally and nationally mobile
  • Evidence of holding positions of responsibility – can be at school, university or in the work place

In addition, the country that you apply for must be your home country.

The Selection Process

Step 1: Questionnaire

Please click here in order to access the central application database. The system will prompt you to answer a set of questions.

Step 2: Application

Upon successful completion of the questionnaire you will be asked to fill out an electronic application, comprising of qualification details and open-ended capability-based questions.

Step 3: On-line numerical test

If the information and answers you provide in your application form correspond with what we're looking for, we'll invite you to complete an online numerical test.

Step 4: On-line verbal reasoning test

Upon successful completion of the numerical test you will be asked to complete an online verbal reasoning test.

Step 5: Telephone interview

If you successfully complete both online tests, we'll ask you to participate in a telephone interview. This will give us an opportunity to find out more about you and what experiences you've had so far.

Step 6: Assessment centre

The final stage in the selection process is an assessment centre. Comprising a range of activities, this will be as much about you discovering HSBC and whether we’re right for you, as it will be about us assessing how well you will perform in the programme.

Step 7: Offering a position in the programme

If you successfully complete the assessment centre, you will be offered a position within the programme, accompanied with a competitive salary and benefit package.
